Catherine Guesde is managing editor for Books & Ideas.
A former student of the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, she is a doctoral candidate in philosophy at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne where she teaches aesthetics. Also a member of the editorial board of Volume ! The French Journal of Popular Music Studies, she specializes in the study of popular music, namely extreme metal and noise music. She has worked as a critic for several magazines specialized in music.
She is the author of “L’éthique du hardcore” (in Multitudes 51, printemps 2013), and of “Inconfort et création” (in WikiCréation); she has co-written ’The Most Beautiful Ugly Sound in the World’: à l’écoute de la noise with Pauline Nadrigny (Musica Falsa, 2018).
