Marie Duru-Bellat, a sociologist specializing in education issues, is a professor at the IEP in Paris and a researcher at the Observatoire Sociologique du Changement and the Institute for Research in Education (IREDU). She works on educational policies and social and gender inequalities in the school system. Her recent works include: L’école des filles. Quelle formation pour quels roles sociaux ?, L’Harmattan, 2004; Les inégalités sociales à l’école. Genesis and myths, PUF, 2002; L’inflation scolaire. Les désillusions de la mériteocracy, Seuil, 2006.
