Armelle Choplin



Armelle Choplin is a lecturer in geography at the University of Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée, and a teacher at the Paris School of Urban Planning. She is interested in urban production in Africa and the Arab world. She strives to compare the city planned by institutional and private actors with the one created by residents. Her research themes concern land, real estate, mobilizations of marginal populations, migration in Africa (Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Sudan, Ghana). Currently seconded to the Institute of Research for Development (IRD), she is carrying out work on the urban corridor of the Gulf of Guinea (Accra, Lomé, Cotonou, Lagos). She recently published, with Olivier Pliez, “The Inconspicuous Spaces of Globalization”, Articulo - Journal of Urban Research, 2016.
