Hervé Joly, a CNRS research director in contemporary history at the Triangle laboratory (University of Lyon), works on the economic and social history of companies, the sociology of managerial elites and the evolution of their training courses in the contemporary period. He has published the books Patrons d’Allemagne. Sociologie d’une élite industrielle. 1933-1989 (1996), Diriger une grande entreprise au XXe siècle : l’élite industrielle française (2012), Les Gillet de Lyon. Fortunes of a great industrial dynasty. 1838-2015 (2015) and A Polytechnique. X 1901. Enquête sur une promotion de polytechniciens de la Belle Époque aux Trente Glorieuses (2021). He is also director of the Collegium. Institut d’études avancées de Lyon.
