Steven Duarte

An agrégé in Arabic and a doctor of the EPHE in Islamology (2014) with a thesis on the question of reformism in contemporary Islam, Steven Duarte has been a lecturer at the Sorbonne Paris Nord University since 2016, where he mainly teaches the Arabic language and the history of reformism. A member of the Pléiade laboratory (EA 7338), his publications have attempted to offer the scientific community a new typology of the actors of Islam who, since the 19^th century, have attempted to critically reinterpret classical texts. His articles and interviews for the general public often aim to remind people of the importance of clearly distinguishing between the currents of contemporary Islam and the different issues they pose in our Western European societies.
