Leyla Arslan



A PhD in political science with an Arabic background, her research focuses on working-class neighbourhoods, immigration and Islam, and the political participation of local residents. Her dissertation, Enfants d’Islam et de Marianne : des banlieues à l’université (PUF, 2011), examines the role of upward social mobility in the construction of ethnicity and religion among young French people of North African, Turkish and African descent who grew up in working-class neighbourhoods in the inner suburbs of Paris. She is also the author of numerous articles and books.
